Cecile Tang Shu-shuen to attend Century of Chinese Cinema

Pioneering film director Cecile Tang Shu-shuen 唐書璇 (left) is widely considered to be a trailblazer of Hong Kong’s socially-critical art cinema movement of the 1970s, and her work was a precursor of the Hong Kong New Wave.

One of the era’s very few female filmmakers, she is being celebrated at TIFF’s Century of Chinese Cinema retrospective with archival 35mm prints of two of her earliest works: The Arch 董夫人 (1968) and China Behind 再見中國 (1974).
