The Reel Ideas program enriches the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival’s vision by fusing industry and education. Our programming aims to provide networking and skills sharing opportunities between emerging talent, visiting artists and established filmmakers. Our mandate is to nurture the growth of Asian creatives within film and the arts at large and to explore multiple aspects of Toronto’s entertainment industry in nuanced ways.
REEL IDEAS: CONFERENCE 2019
For the 23rd Reel Asian Film Festival, Reel Ideas will host a conference on Friday, November 8, plus a number of events throughout the festival that will generate opportunities for development and production of local film. The conference consists of:

Catch the live showdown between finalists as they pitch their film projects to a jury for a chance to win an amazing prize package of industry support and cash funding. Cheer on the hard work of emerging Asian Canadian talent and support your favourite film-to-be or learn some tips and tricks for when it’s you up there next year.
MEASURING UP WITH TALLBOYZ

Come and hang out with the cast of TallBoyz as we deep dive into their creative processes, what it was like to produce the show with CBC, and what it takes to translate comedy sketches into television. Panel features Franco Nguyen, Guled Abdi, Vance Banzo, and Tim Blair.

Last year, Reel Ideas hosted a keynote event with American comedian, writer and podcaster, Hari Kondabolu. The finalists for our So You Think You Can Pitch? competition also presented their projects to the jury for a chance to win a prize towards the production of their next short film.
