Reel Asian Co-presents LOST & FOUND at Bloor Cinema

On March 11, 2011, Japan was struck by the most powerful earthquake to have hit the nation, resulting in tens of thousands of casualties. As the 5th year anniversary of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami approaches, those affected in Japan and around the world are still healing. An estimated 25 tonnes of wreckage from the disaster, believed to have swept into the ocean, has started to appear on the shores and coasts of North America.

Toronto-based filmmakers Nicolina Lanni and Justin Choi’s first feature documentary, Lost & Found, captures stories spanning between two continents as strangers come together to salvage memories amidst the debris to return items to their rightful owners. SYNOPSIS: The depths of the Pacific Ocean holds incredible things, including an estimated 25 million tons of what was torn from the earth in the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami in 2011. Soon after Japan’s cataclysmic natural disaster which took around 15,000 lives, wreckage from the event began to pop up on the other side of the world. Fragments of coastal towns, fishing communities and rural villages are appearing on North America’s shores. Government officials, scientists and beachcombers alike are coming together to track and collect all that was lost-and return those items to their original owners.
