Panelists

	Jessica Schmiedchen: Executive in Charge of Development, CBC Unscripted Content Jessica oversees development of original content and formats in the genres of factual entertainment and doc series – on both linear television and on the broadcaster’s streaming service, CBC Gem. She is responsible for sourcing the best new formats from around the world and working with the independent production community in Canada to bring their ideas to life.
	Susan Baker, Manager, Business & Rights, CBC With over 35 years in the film and television business, Sue’s career combines 20 years of business acumen with 15 years of line producing award-winning documentary series and features. Working for and with productions for small and large organizations, local and international audiences on a diverse range of subjects, she understands both the constraints of the independent producer and the corporate culture of a broadcaster.
	Andrew D’Cruz, Executive Producer, CBC Arts Andrew D’Cruz is the executive producer of CBC Arts and its weekly television show CBC Arts: Exhibitionists. He’s been building and running websites since the late ’90s, and is (still) passionate about finding new ways to tell stories online. He previous led CBC’s Canada 150 vertical and ran the digital arms of George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight and Steven and Chris. Prior to that, he worked in magazine publishing in both print and digital roles.
	Melanie Nepinak Hadley, Production Executive, Drama Melanie Nepinak Hadley has been involved in the television industry in many capacities for over 15 years. She is currently Executive in Charge of Production for CBC Drama. In her role at CBC she oversees a slate of projects in development and in production. She has managed titles such as; Heartland, Pure, The Secret Path and Frankie Drake Mysteries. Prior to her role at CBC, she was the Manager of Programming for Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN). Melanie is from Winnipeg, Manitoba but currently resides in Toronto, Ontario and is a member of the Pine Creek First Nation.

Research Centre at The 401 Commons, 401 Richmond Building

Join Vtape for a tour through the Research Centre and learn how you could use Vtape’s extensive archive for your work!

As part of this year’s festival, VTape will be pulling a list of Asian filmmakers from their database and making computers in the Research Centre available for the public to drop in and use to explore their archives during the festival.

Vtape’s Research collection is available free of charge for use by curators, programmers, scholars, critics, students, and the general public. The Research Centre shared by 401 Commons Collective offers computer stations with access to Vtape’s Video Catalogue and Critical Writing Index. Here, Vtape videos can be viewed, and users can have access to key writings, additional print materials, and our library of publications and exhibition ephemera.

In 2014, Vtape launched the Digital Preview Access Project. Newly digitized titles are accessible through Vtape’s password-protected portal that provides temporary access for scholars, curators, programmers and institutions considering research, purchase or exhibition. To date, we have digitized and uploaded over 3,000 titles of a collection that supports 6,000+ titles. REGISTER FOR THIS SESSION

Wanda vanderStoop, Distribution Director of Vtape

Wanda vanderStoop provides continuing support to Vtape’s artists, promoting over 5000 independent productions to worldwide markets including museums, national and international festivals, broadcasters, educational institutions and mobile platforms. She is a committed advocate for artist’s rights and fees and contributes to a policy consultation process on the changing methods of dissemination in video and new media.
