Significant Asian Representation in 2018 Class of Oscar Voters

On Monday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences invited a record 928 new members to increase the Oscar voting pool to approximately 8,200 people.

This year’s class of Oscar voters shows the most significant stride in bridging the diversity gap of the Academy. 49% of the those invited this year are women, with around 38% of the new class consisting of people of colour.

Out of this year’s voters, an unprecedented 123 members are of South Asian, East Asian, or Southeast Asian descent.
