Reel Asian and Inside Out is proud to present Macanese director Tracy Choi’s latest film, SISTERHOOD. Choi’s first documentary film, I’m Here, won the Jury Award at the Macau Film & Video Festival in 2012 and landed her a spot at the Paris International Lesbian & Feminist Festival. This time around she spotlights feminist issues with her very first narrative film.

Seiya (Fish Liew) finds herself a job at a massage parlour in Macau during the 90’s when Macau was not yet known as Asia’s casino metropolis. Her mentor, Ling (Jennifer Yu), is a single mother, and both become exceptionally fond of one another as they develop a new and special relationship. Together they care for Ling’s son, but on the eve of Macau’s handover back to China, they have a fight that separates the best friends for years to come. Now in her 40s and living in Taiwan, Seiya (Gigi Leung) stumbles upon a missing person’s report in the newspaper about Ling. She decides to revisit her past in a familiar yet very different Macau.
