We are proud to co-present the North American premiere of Malila: The Farewell Flower, a moving Thai film from the director of The Blue Hour, Reel Asian’s co-presentation with Inside Out in 2015. Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film Festival will be held from May 24th to June 3rd.
When Shane learns that his former lover, Pitch, has been diagnosed with cancer, Shane returns to his old village to be with him. The two men seek comfort in one another’s arms as Pitch devotes his time to bai sri, the intricate art whereby banana leaves and jasmine flowers are elaborately intertwined, in an attempt to heal his body and spirit. Contemplative and languorous, director Boonyawatana provides a fascinating window onto Buddhist philosophies and traditional Thai culture.
