Reel Asian is very proud to co-present MIDNIGHT’S CHILDREN with National Canada Film Day, a magical tale about children born on the brink of India’s independence. Famed author of the original novel, Salman Rushdie, sold the rights to director Deepa Mehta for $1 and wrote the screenplay himself.

SYNOPSIS: At the stroke of midnight on August 15, 1947, as India gains independence from Britain, two newborn babies are switched by a nurse in the hospital. Although these two children now live the lives of the intended other, their paths are intertwined as India falls into political turmoil. Saleem Sinai, along with the other children born on that fateful day are gifted with special powers. Being the 1001st, Saleem is telepathically linked to the other 1000 and has the responsibility to bring everyone and everything together.
National Canadian Film Day 150 (NCFD 150) is a massive one-day celebration of Canadian cinema in honour of our nation’s sesquicentennial. On April 19, 2017, great Canadian movies will be available in over 1,700 screenings in cinemas, libraries, public squares and anywhere you can show a film.
