Reel Asian is proud to co-present two moving documentaries with the TAIWANfest, Let There Be Light 微光時代 and The Walkers 行者. #TAIWANfest is the largest Mandarin/English-speaking cultural event in Canada and runs August 25-27 at Harbourfront Centre.

“Let There Be Light” is a documentary of true stories reflected and recorded by international volunteers servicing in different countries. The film was shot in India, Nepal, and Thailand, respectively, with a limited production budget, up to three years before shooting to complete. The film is produced by renowned director, Awei Liu (Golden Harvest Award – Best Producer in Documentary films, Taipei Film Festival – Best Director in Avant-Garde films, and having worked with the Discovery Channel for many years), training volunteers to shooting in relay. The volunteers, in their own way, recorded their care for the poor and dark areas bit by bit, which is to “do small things with great love.”

The product of ten years of filming, “The Walkers” documents the life and story of renowned Taiwanese choreographer Madam Lin, Founder and Lead Choreographer of Taiwan’s Legend Lin Dance Theatre. As one of Taiwan’s top performing arts troupes and critically acclaimed throughout Europe and Asia alike, Madam Lin is the cultivation of one’s woman’s lifelong journey to achieve the perfect aesthetic. Be prepared for a mesmerizing experience, as the film explores the origins of her dance, contemplates the poetic and ritualistic movements she creates and delineates her lifetime pursuit of perfect aesthetic.
