The summer festivals aren’t over yet! TAIWANfest is coming to Toronto and Reel Asian will be there to co-present Formosa Boulevard.
Canadian director Scott Weatherall makes his anticipated return to Canada after ten years of filmmaking in Taiwan to premiere his first feature film, Formosa Boulevard at TAIWANfest Toronto. This snappy black comedy features Otis (Andy Gourley) as the unapologetic, alcoholic, freeloading foreigner who lives life the way he wants. In contrast, Danny (Mark Nielsen) plays by the rules and lives to please everyone else. However, everything changes on the day of his wedding when something causes Danny to snap and he runs away. On this particular night, Otis’s past catches up to him and Danny will get caught up in the crossfire.
Formosa Boulevard screens twice at TAIWANfest over the weekend and both the director and producer will be in attendance to talk about their experience making films abroad. TAIWANfest Toronto takes place at Harbourfront Centre again this summer from August 28-30. More information here.

SYNOPSIS: Formosa Boulevard is the first feature film from writer, director Scott Weatherall. This independent film was produced by Stone Soup Production Company and was shot completely on the exotic island of Taiwan. The story follows two people at different ends of the life spectrum whose paths cross on one eventful night. “Otis” (Andy Gorley), an unapologetic, alcoholic, freeloading foreigner who has been drinking, smoking, begging and borrowing his way around the island well past his welcome, lives for himself, and does what he wants. He never questions how his actions affect others, because he doesn’t care. Otis believes life is to be used and abused. “Danny”(Mark Nielsen) is the Yin to Otis’s Yang. He has lived his life to please everyone, but on the day of his wedding to the only girlfriend he has ever had, something in him snaps and he runs. He buys a ticket for the next flight to anywhere and sets events in motion that will change his life forever. For Otis, on this particular night, his past catches up with him and he will be forced to face mistakes he started making a long time ago. The greatest of these was the deception of “Mr. Smoke”(Michael Huang), the leader of the largest crime family in the East.
