Reel Asian is co-presenting Opening Night film Socialphobia and the Korean Shorts Competition Showcase at the Toronto Korean Film Festival!
We are proud to co-present at the 4th annual Toronto Korean Film Festival! We’re kicking things off with the Opening Night film Socialphobia on May 26. Director Hong Suk-Jae’s commercial film debut takes the conspiracy theory of truth behind the suicide of an online bullying victim; prompting a group of young men to investigate what really happened. Starring rising actors Byun Yo-han and Lee Jo-seung, Socialphobia is based on the reality of Internet addiction and online violence among today’s generation in South Korea. We’re also proud to be co-presenting the Korean Shorts Competition Showcase on May 31.

SYNOPSIS: Ji-Woong and Young-min are two young men studying to pass the police officer entrance exam who become fascinated by an online conspiracy theory regarding the suicide of an online bullying victim. When they take it upon themselves to uncover the truth by finding the woman at the centre of the conspiracy, Min Ha-young, they instead find her dead body in a apparent suicide. As the conspiracy gets more and more twisted the young men become the targets of the witch-hunt they started and must find the truth to prove their innocence and save their futures. Trailer

KOREAN SHORTS COMPETITION
Out of 150 submissions, the following six were selected by TKFF 2015 to showcase. Audience members have a chance to vote on their favourite films, and the two most popular films will be awarded that evening. While some has their world premieres at other film festivals, TKFF 2015 will be the Canadian Premiere of all six shorts. *Viewer Discretion Highly Advised: These films contain strong language and scenes of a violent and sexually explicit nature.
