Reel Asian is co-presenting Bend It Like Beckham for Regent Park’s Under The Stars: Movies in the Park. Get ready for 6 weeks of free outdoor summer screenings!
We are proud to co-present Bend It Like Beckham at Regent Park Film Festival’s 3rd installment of Under The Stars: Movie in the Park on July 22nd. The hit British comedy-drama stars Parminder Nagra as Jess, a passionate football player who finds herself deceiving her strict Indian parents to take part in a women’s football league. Preceeding the film is a short film from 2014’s Reel Asian Unsung Voices filmmaker, Nathaniel Wong On The Other Hand, tells the story of a father teaching his son a lesson on success in this ping-pong parable. Remember to bring a blanket and enjoy an evening under the stars!

SYNOPSIS: Jess Bhamra (Parminder Nagra), the 18 year old daughter of a strict Indian couple (Anupam Kher and Shaheen Khan) living in West London strives to maintain their Indian heritage, refusing Jess to play football. However, when Jess plays for fun one day, her impressive skills are seen by Jules Paxton (Keira Knightley), who then convinces Jess to play for her semi-pro team. Jess uses elaborate excuses to hide her matches from her family while also dealing with her romantic feelings for her coach, Joe (Jonathan Rhys Meyers). TRAILER
